Auto Assault had a cool promo vid, with the one human chick and the mutant with the cloaking device squaring off... other than that, though, it looked like a waste of time and energy.

Thats the one problem with online games, isn't it?
With solo games, companies can stop supporting and patching it after a while, but the game is still playable for years to come (boredom excepted). You can still be the last human on earth playing the game.
With online games, once the player base has fallen, the distros can't keep the lights on.
I hope that NCsoft can consider license the franchise to a smaller company with less overheads, or to a fan-run company, so that the game can keep on going for the few fanatics.
Food for thought for the future of GW1, when GW2 comes out. Not that there's hasn't been countless examples before.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone of the community make their own private servers like the thousands of pirate servers for WoW out there.

Freeshards.
You see them a lot with UO and DAoC. Probably with EQ as well.

I'd be surprised if NetDevil hasn't gone belly-up. I don't recall them having anything else on the market.

I played the free beta of that game: It had very repitive quests: get this item, kill 10 of these baddies, etc.
The problem was it was like every other MMORPG, except your driving a car instead of a character. After the novelty wore off (it wore off fast for me), I couldn't imagine buying the game, much less subscribing to it. (Yes, it required a subscription.)
